What's my problem?

"Mr. Madison, what you have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul." - Billy Madison

This. This is how I feel ever since I've become a mom. I don't know why or how this happened. I mean, I did earn a 4.0 in my Master's of Education program, yet I feel like I can't add 2+2 without stopping to think about it. What is my problem? No one told me this would happen. That I would become 10x dumber after having a baby. Please tell me that I'm not the only one. Please?

I went shopping last night. My list consisted of fruit for Carter, a wedding card for Tim and Christina, shampoo, and paper towel. That's it. Four items. I came back home without the fruit for Carter. Now I know that everyone forgets stuff from a shopping list every once in a while, but "fruit for Carter" was the very first thing on my list. Not only that, but after walking around the store to pick up all my items, I checked the list to make sure I got everything. "Yep, I got it, lets proceed to the checkout." When I got to the checkout, I put everything on the conveyor belt and checked my list one last time- "fruit, card, shampoo, paper towel- I'm good." I get home, empty the bags, take one look at Carter who was happily playing on the floor and realize I forgot the effing fruit. No, I didn't leave the bag behind at the store- I didn't even go to the aisle and pick it up. This is the kind of stuff that I do on a daily basis. I feel so forgetful and like I can't even make a complete sentence. What is my problem?

As an undergrad I was a psychology major. Recently I've been thinking about 2 research studies that I was apart of. The first study concluded that people tend to remember items at the beginning and end of a list, but not the middle. Nope... not me. The second study concluded that rats that had babies were smarter then rats that didn't. The mama rats completed every assigned task better and faster then their baby-less counterparts. Nope... not me. I'm going against science people. Science.

So I ask again... please tell me I'm not the only one? If you're brave, I'd love to read your comments. To the shy readers... there's a poll on the side :)

***** EDIT ****
I just went to the bathroom for the first time since getting ready for work this morning {yes, I am a bionic woman that can hold my pee for long periods of time- even while 9 months PG} and my underwear was on inside out. Inside out. This is the stuff I'm talking about.

You are sooooo not alone. Just be thankful you didn't forget Carter!
Funny story. I went to store the other night specifically for corn on the cob. (I Love to grill). Ended up getting home with 3 bags full of celery, carrots, strawberries, bing cherries, and oranges. No corn on the cob. The 1 item I went for, and probably passed three times walking around the produce section gathering an obscene amount of fruits and veggies, didn't even bother to get any! Don't feel alone, it happens to all of us moms!

Ughhh...well, I just completed my PhD in Biochemistry this semester after my son was born this past September. It is a miracle they passed me. I swear my committee asked me things that I've known since birth and I couldn't answer them. On top of that, I do dumb things in my life (exactly like what you're talking about) everyday. I bought a foam playmat for my son and it has letters that slide out of the tiles. I'm not sure if this will make sense, but my husband was flipping the symetrical letters over so they were smooth while the rest of the mat was a bumpy texture. I asked him if he could switch the M and the W so that they could be included in the flipping. He said, "no, but M and W are symetrical on their own, so it doesn't make a difference." Yeah...DUH! Almost every day since I defended my dissertation he says, "I can't believe they gave you a PhD."

I can't remember anything for the life of me. I lost my brain when I got my BFP. I too am in the 4.0 in my masters program club but there is no way you would know that. My baby boy is beautiful and thriving. I, however, am a freaking mess. I just can't seem to get it together.

You are not alone! I think to myself at least once a week since Brandt has been born. What has happened to my mind?!

This is me! I had a moment like this today! I was driving Kaleb to the sitter and I was talking to him the whole time. I pull in and I'm like, "Okay we're here!" and I look up and we are at my work. I wanted to die. It's only 2 miles to the shop and 2 miles to his sitter from my house but it's in completely opposite directions! Ugh. I thought pregnancy brain went away after the baby was born!

its this phenomenon called Mommy brain...yes it has a name:-P
Fortunately I had another mom who had a 6 month old at the time tell that if I thought pregnancy brain was bad to wait until Gavin was born...my gawd she was right!!

I can't remember anything...I have to write everything down. I have started taking a little notepad just about everywhere I go in my purse so I don't forget things. And even then I sometimes forget my list =0

so no hon...you are for sure not the only one lol!!!
