Annual Family Pictures!

Every fall, around late October/early November we have our family pictures taken. It's something we started when Carter was just 3 months old, and it's now a tradition I intend to continue for as long as my family will let me =)

As any mama preparing for family pictures knows, picking the outfits is by far the hardest part. You want classic looks that will remain timeless over the years. Colors and patterns that go together but aren't too matchy-matchy. You know the drill...

Looking back on our past family portraits {which you can view here: 2008 | 2009 | 2010} you can tell I have a serious love affair with browns and blues. It's like my favorite color combo ever. This year I'm trying my hardest to stay away from it. {It's so hard. Trust me.} And after looking high and low for outfits for everyone, here's what I came up with...

Pin It
I decided I'd find the kids outfits first and go from there. Although I ordered the black cords for Carter, I might actually put him in dark jeans with Bob and I. I really want the kids to look dressy, but not overdone. I think wearing dark jeans will make the pics look more casual and less formal, which is what I want.

The great thing about the kids outfits? They can wear them on Christmas Eve! =)

As for me... I'm looking into more pops of red. I might look for a red scarf that I can throw on, but the problem with red is... it's not all the same shade. I'm going to head to the mall on Saturday {likely with the kids outfits} and see what I can find. Hopefully I can squeeze a shopping trip in post hair appointment and pre-wedding. Saturday is going to be crazy.

Our pictures are this Sunday with Steph and I'm super excited about it! I'm searching high and low {mostly on Pinterest} for family picture ideas. We're also still discussing the location, we may head to an old historic town in Wilmington, DE or head back to the park where my wedding pics were taken {which I LOVE.}

Just an FYI on where I found these items {because there's nothing I hate worse than these outfit boards without any indication of where to buy the things pictured. Grrr.}

Bob: Sweater, Shirt, Jeans
Jenni: Sweater, Shirt, Jeans, Boots, Earrings
Carter & Brynn: Entire outfits are from The Children's Place

What do you think of the outfits? Have any other ideas for pops of red? Any cute family picture ideas you've seen online or maybe done yourself? I'd love your help!

I love it! We are also having family pictures done in early November (also my baby's smash the cake session). It is so true, the outfits are the hardest element!

Can't wait to see how yours will turn out!

Like like like. The red is perfect. I like the scarf idea for adding red to your outfit. And poor Bob doesn't get to wear shoes, huh? :)Poor guy!

These are pretty much our colors too but dark browns instead of the black. Great choices!

Love the colors this year! When I was reading your red "situation" the first thing I thought of was...a cute red flower pin..from NY&CO. Just a thought! Good luck! I'm sure the pics will be adorable.
And thanks for the reminder its time for ours too.

these pics are gonna be gorgeous! especially now that you are such a skinny minny! i liked the earring with the red, maybe a long chain with a red crystal or a red belt or like you suggested a red scarf. best of luck, i know the pictures will turn out beautiful!

Could you tell us the name of your black sweater? Love it! The link just goes to Kohls. Thanks

I love the outfits!! I always love your brown and blue combo but this will be a fun change.

Regarding your red, I think I'd shy away from a scarf because it will cover up the awesome shirt. What about just red accessories? Someone above mentioned a red flower pin, which I think is an awesome idea, or what about a red chunky bracelet?
