To wait or not to wait...

As you all know, our big ultrasound is currently scheduled for December 23rd at 8:30am. Bob and I are beyond excited about it and just love that we are going to find out the sex of this baby so close to Christmas. It's going to be such a wonderful present.

But the more I think about it, the more I am considering waiting to find out. Not waiting until the birth of the baby {I already tried to talk Bob into that and it's just not an option according to him} but possibly having the ultrasound tech right down the sex of the baby and placing it in an envelope for us. I was then thinking of wrapping it in a little box and opening it first thing Christmas morning.

What do you think?

Part of me thinks this is the best idea that I've ever come up with in my entire life, but another part of me wants to have that special day solely dedicated to the baby.

For those of you that don't know, when we had our big ultrasound with Carter, it was a snowy Friday in February {2.22.08 to be exact ;) }. Bob and I both took off from work and headed to the ultrasound office bright and early. It was so wonderful to lay their for an hour looking at the baby and then having them tell us he was a boy. My heart melted {it would have melted no matter what the gender was, mind you}. We were so excited that, after finding out, we called our parents and siblings from the office parking lot. =) After all the joyful calls {and lots of crying} Bob and I headed to Babies R Us to start our registry and do a little shopping. We then went out to lunch together. It was just such a great day that was all about our new baby BOY.

Part of me wants that again. Now, I know I can have that without finding out the sex, but it sure would be nice when we go shopping to actually pick out gender specific items or look for bedding that we like, etc.

I talked to Bob about it {obviously} and we're still trying to decide what to do. Find out at the ultrasound place, call everyone, go shopping and out to lunch AND be able to tell friends and family the gender at my parents annual Christmas Eve party. Or wait. Waiting sounds exciting too. I mean, how fun would it be to find out on Christmas morning?

Hmmmm. What to do, what to do...

Comments or votes would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much. =)

I really like the idea of Christmas morning. Plus I think it would be really cute if you video taped it and Carter could be a part of it (don't know if you would be taking him to the u/s) and then you get to spend the whole day telling everyone your great news!!

I would wait until Christmas morning. For me, it would be a special bond with Christ and my husband and every Christmas morning from then on would feel a different kind of special. That's Just My Opinion though.

What about a mixture of both? You two find out and dedicate the day to him or her, but don't tell anyone else. Then on Christmas wrap up something showing the gender for everyone in your family to open and reveal the surprise to them?

My vote is don't wait. I really like the idea of an entire day devoted to the new baby. And while finding out on Christmas morning would be really neat, I wouldn't like that the day wasn't really about the baby.

That's my thought EXACTLY Kris. It would be about Christmas not the baby, ya know...

Hmmmm.

I like the idea of waiting until Christmas morning. That would be so much fun and I like the idea of having Carter with you when you open the envelope.

wait until Christmas, totally! Not that it has to be about the baby or the holiday, but a gift from above for both of you, that you can both open together.

I like the combo idea! And seriously with my next baby I am going to do the whole devote a day thing. :-) So SWEET!

I think that is an awesome idea! With our little guy we asked the tech to write it down and we put it in an envelope- to be opened at an undetermined time. We of course didnt even make it to the parking lot before we opened it but it was honestly the BEST moment to have just to ourselves, standing outside the hospital and crying because it said BOY. I say go for it on Christmas, or you guys could always open it up on Christmas Eve which would also be fun. GL!!

Hi Jenni!

I say find out on the day!

The Christmas day idea is really neat but what a friend of mine did was get them to put the sex in an enveloppe and then they went out for a lovely lunch together and opened it there - it was really special and as you say, all about that baby.

Also we are having a baby mid-June - so excited :)

I would not wait. I would want to find out at the u/s because I'd want them to show me over and over again "the goods"! LOL just to be sure. And that moment is so special when it's just you, your husband (and of course the tech). Good luck making your decision!
