Renovation Complete!

Do you remember that storm that hit a few months ago and caused some damage to our house? While looking back at my blog for those links, I couldn't believe that it happened in June. JUNE. Why am I now just getting around to finishing this project and posting these pictures?? It's probably because I've been going completely crazy these past few months with Carter's birthday and party, a new job, then vacation, weddings, more birthday's, and....you get the idea.

So this past weekend I had a wonderful thought... If I invite both families over for dinner, it will motivate us to get our butts in gear and finally finish this project. {Especially since my dad and father-in-law had worked so hard to put the new sliding glass door in the dinning room and the new window and carpet in the family room back in JUNE.} The renovation project had been almost complete for months. Almost. I hate almost. Our dining room looked like a wreck...we still had yet to paint the new drywall and there was a Shopvac sitting in it since the project began. Not to mention all the molding that still needed to be hung in both rooms.

On Saturday, Bob and I worked so hard to get all of the little things done that would finally complete this project. We painted, hung molding in the dinning room and family room, put in floor transition pieces, touched up paint spots all around the room, hung curtain rods and new curtains, and then finally cleaned our house! It looks wonderful and I feel so much better =)

A quick recap- the storm had caused water damage down in our family room {it's a bi-level house so the family room is a little bit under ground} and we had to replace the carpet, drywall, and molding downstairs. We also removed our back door and replaced it with a window in the family room. The new sliding glass door in the dinning room is now our back door.

Here are a few before and after pics.

The back wall in the dinning room consisted of an 8' x 6' window that went all the way to the floor. We had been wanting to put in a sliding glass door since we moved in...

And here it is... =)

...and we love it!

Like I said above, the major damage was in the family room. Water had leaked under the door and ruined our carpet and floor molding. Lovely, right? So the plan was to completely remove the back door and replace it with a window. We also tore out all the drywall from the ledge down and replaced everything. We wanted it to look like there was never a door there! From the outside, we filled in the concrete stairs and completely removed everything so that it looks amazing from the outside too! Minus the fact that we need new siding, of course.

Before... And after...

We just LOVE how everything turned out. It's so warm and cozy now, just how I like a home to be. And that corner where the door use to be... it's now Carter's play area! We put his toybox down there with a few of his bigger toys that sit out. He loves it =) Oh, and dinner with both families on Sunday was wonderful, by the way. Bob and I made my mom's homemade spaghetti and meatball dinner. YUM.

I'm just glad that this project is finally d-o-n-e.

Thanks everyone!

I love that TV too Kate! But Bob and I want to get one to hang above our fireplace. We already have one hanging in our bedroom and LOVE it. It would also allow us to put a big chair down here =)
